I Need An Extension . . . and Some Honesty

I really should have known saying I would have my fall shower curtain completed and hung by September 1st was pushing it just a teensy bit. I still have to put buttonholes across the top for the rings on the shower rod to go through. Then it will be done.

But, drat and blast, guess who is having no luck at all getting the buttonhole attachment on her machine to work? Granted, I haven't used it in a couple of years but it's always been super-simple to use. For some reason, today I can't get the computer programmed correctly. Operator error? Could be. The store where I purchased the machine is 130 miles away but they are very good about giving any help they can over the phone so that's my next step . . . as soon as I have time to make the phone call during their business hours.

I'll be away from home all day tomorrow so looks like Friday will be my first chance to see if I can get things straightened out via phone.

In the meantime, I need input regarding this baby quilt top I made a while back. I used colors and fabrics that pushed me outside the box . . . which is supposed to be good for us now and then, right?

A certain person who shall remain nameless (I'm protecting the guilty here rather than the innocent) took one look at it and said it was AWFUL! I didn't think it was bad at all, but maybe I'm not really "seeing" it after working through the whole design and construction.

The colors (on my computer screen anyway) show pretty true. Perhaps the deep purple is showing a smidge more on the blue side than it really is but otherwise it's a fairly realistic representation of the coloration.

Truly, I'd like honest opinions from you all. I know my dog will be very happy with it for her bed if no one but me thinks anyone would buy it for a baby. Don't be afraid. Be brutal, be honest, lay it on me. What do you think?

Ha ha ha ha! Okay, I don't remember this quilt, but who said it was awful, me or Dad? ;)

I don't know if it's "awful", but it's . . . ummmmm . . . colorful. I know I wouldn't buy it in a store, but I also know that things that sell by the MILLIONS hold no interest for me, either (Britney Spears tickets, for example). So, me not buying it doesn't mean that someone else won't LOVE it.

It's just very . . . ummmm . . . uhhhh . . . mmmm . . . 80s. How's that? Yeah, that's what it is. Big hair & jelly shoes. Shoulder pads, too. 80s.

And, I see no hint of purples. The outer border is royal blue, then, teal, then the yellows & pinks. I think, too, that the white backing of the stars is just too contrasting to the rest of the quilt.

But, that's just me. ;)

Ummm, okay, here goes. It isn't awful, but it's just "okay" to me. I personally would not purchase it, but it's the purple that turns me away - I am just not a purple fan and use it veeerrry sparingly in any quilt I might make. That being said, I agree with Chicken Mama - that doesn'e mean that someone else wouldn't buy it. After all, "it takes all kinds to make a world", "variety is the spice of life", yada yada yada...On the flip side, I really do like the design of the quilt, just not the fabric/color mix.
Good luck with the button holer problem so you can get that fall shower curtain up!

Chicken Mama - Gosh, that's just about verbatim what you said when you saw it for the first time! But thanks for commenting on it this time around.

Hi, Vivian - Well, I did say that I chose colors that I normally wouldn't have chosen! Maybe this is a lesson that it's not always a good idea to push ourselves. I think what I'm gonna do is use the quilt to practice some new free-motion quilting designs . . . and then give it to the dog.

I like the basic design of the quilt, too. It might be a very interesting experiment to make it again using much different colors and see the final product.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Please say you didn't give it to the dog!!!

I agree, it's bright - but in a way that reminds me a candy store. Maybe it's not your favorite, that happens when you are just playing - but that doesn't means someone else might not love it. Check out Project Linus.

Jenyfer - No, the dog is lying on it! It's still sitting in the "To Be Finished" pile staring at me. Sure appreciate your encouragement. Candy store. Yeah, that's what it looks like. A candy store. (Can't be all bad then, can it?)

Our local quilt shop regularly collects quilts for Project Linus and that's always a good idea.

Jenyfer - Whoops! Meant to say "No, the dog ISN'T lying on it!" in above comment. (I should proof read, shouldn't I?)
