Home Quilt Retreat - Day One

The weather today couldn't have been better for hunkering down in my quilt studio

A bad picture taken through window and screen, but this was the scene this morning out my quilt studio window.

I had a couple of things to do in there before I got down to any actual quilting.

I did a mending job on a duffel bag of hubby's.

Then I cleaned off my cutting table so I would have a place to . . . well, do some cutting.

Next I cleaned both my machines. A little task long overdue.

I was close to plumb out of wound and ready bobbins so I sat and replenished my supply of ecru, gray and white ones.

Finally got on to the quilting. Worked on my daughter's winter wall hanging which had better get done quickly or it won't be winter anymore.

Previously I'd spent a lot of time trying to choose fabrics for the borders. Then I did what I probably should have done in the first place. A couple of days ago I asked her what she preferred . . . and that's what I did.

Tomorrow I'll get it sandwiched with batting and backing and start the quilting on it.

'Twas a good day!

The wall hanging is awesome! Doesn't it feel good???

And you will have some nice hand-work to sit down with now too. Cozy fire, anyone?

Good job and keep it up!

Hurray! I absolutely love the wall hanging. Of course anything blue is always a hit with me. Are you inspired now for your day two?

What a satisfying day! How I envy you. But I DON'T envy the view out of your window -- no more snow! I love how Chicken Mama's quilt hanging is coming along - it's beautiful!

That wall hanging is so pretty! Bet it feels so good to be in there, and what perfect weather for it!

APG - The only hand work on this one is gonna be the binding. Although I would rather hand quilt it, it's going to be machine quilted because of time constraints. Am I bad?

Leigh - Definitely inspired for today. I'm not fond (read: avoidance!) of doing the letter applique and was glad to get over that hump yesterday!

Beth - "A quilting vacation." What a lovely phrase!!

Susan - I so wish I could magically transport you and some of your handwork here to join me!

Erin - Today (Saturday) is clear and sunny but I'm still very happy to be holed up quilting. Thanks for the nice words.

Wahoo! You're doing it!! Good for you. Maybe you could take Monday off, too?? Looks like the perfect weather for just sewing.

Lori - Would I LOVE to take Monday off, too! Sad to say, it will be back to the real world tomorrow. But these last three days have been great!
