Let's Get On With These Potholders

Here are the four blocks I chose for my daughter's new potholders. The pieces are cut out but not sewn together yet.

This is "Anvil." Used just two colors for this one and am happy with the way it looks. The red print was one of her favorite fabrics so I wanted to showcase it.

The "Brave World" block. There aren't too many blacks in 30s prints but I really like this black and white polka dot and the geometric print with black in it.

This block would make a great baby quilt! It's "Road to Heaven" and I stayed with all reds for it.

"Southern Belle." Uh-oh. It's not doin' it for me. Could be my choice of fabrics or placement of color. Nope, I don't think I like the block well enough to try it with different fabrics. I'll sew it together though just to make sure.

After I got all four blocks pieced, I knew "Southern Belle" had to go. I cut and pieced another block I had originally been considering.

Okay! This is "Castles in Spain" and I like it a lot. The black print with small flowers looks very homey, very kitchen-y to me.

Here are all five blocks I made, but I did jettison "Southern Belle." I'll continue on with the four; Anvil, Brave World, Road to Heaven, and Castles in Spain substituted for (blech) Southern Belle.

Back to the sewing machine.

To be continued . . .

I'm right there with you, Mama Pea. Southern Belle just didn't cut it, but I love the Castles in Spain (pattern and fabrics) you chose instead. You go girl!

These are beautiful! I'm imagining a sampler quilt with a few more of these stunning blocks.

Hey, Vivian - Thanks so much for stopping by and making the comment. When you start a new blog, you always wonder 1) if ANYONE is reading it and, 2) if you're blogging about anything anyone is interested in! So, as I say, comments mean a lot to me.

Hi, Beth - Thank you, thank you!

Hmmm, a sampler quilt . . . wonder how many of those duddy blocks like Southern Belle I'd have to make and reject to find as many as I'd like for the whole quilt? What am I saying? That's actually all part of the fun project!

Not having seen them in person yet, Road to Heaven is definitely my favorite . . . but I like Anvil, too. Really like Castles in Spain, too! (And, NOOOOO, Mother, that does not mean, "Oh, so you don't like 'Brave World', huh?")

;) xo

Chicken Mama - I thought you were going to say you really liked "Southern Belle" and why didn't I use it. Ha-ha! ;o)

I'm curious now - are most of your "mini" project quilts hand pieced? I find it very difficult to machine piece small blocks, but really have never tackled hand piecing a mini quilt yet - it's on my list of things to do. LOL

Hey, Vivian - You've asked some good questions that have all kinds of thoughts running around in my head.

If you don't mind, I'm going to do a short blog post answering them . . . soon. It may not happen today (another crazy day that I can't run fast enough to keep up with) but I'll try for tomorrow.

Thanks for the inspiration!
